Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta extends scholarship deadline
Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta has extended their Women of Inspiration Education Award.
The local non-profit hands out three $3,000 scholarships to young women attending post-secondary school.
Syncrude has funded the scholarships since 2013, since then Girls Inc. and Syncrude have helped 24 students.
Two of the three awards are named after former women of inspiration. The Barb Jewers Memorial Scholarship is awarded to the applicant that demonstrates a sincere commitment to volunteerism and community involvement.
The Elsie Yanik Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an Indigenous student.
The third scholarship is named after Ann Dort-MacLean, the founder of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta. The scholarship is awarded to an applicant who is passionate about youth empowerment and gender equality.
The awards are given based on financial need, academic achievement and extracurricular and community involvement.
