The Anzac Recreation & Social Society (AR&SS) is excited to announce the return of the annual Anzac Winterfest event from March 11-13 at Camp Yogi (201 Townsend Drive, Anzac).
After a two-year hiatus, the Oil Sands Sled Dog Classic will once again be part of the festival program, with dog teams travelling from several provinces as far east as Quebec to participate.
The Winterfest is free to attend and will feature fun activities for all ages, including the Mad Miles 24 Hour Ultramarathon, Running Thunder Dancers and Drummers, food, a crib tournament, kids activities, family dog sled rides, a petting zoo, face painting, learn how to ice fish, bingos, and more.
The Oil Sands Sled Dog Classic is sure to be a highlight of the event, with 2-dog, 6-dog, and 10- dog teams taking part. Teams will be competing for a $15,000 purse on a purpose-built course on Gregoire Lake.
The AR&SS recognizes that winters in Northern Alberta can be long, so great events like the Winterfest can be a welcome way to bring some excitement. We are very excited to facilitate the 4th annual Oil Sands Sled Dog Classic races in conjunction with our annual Winterfest.
Dog sleds are part of Northern Canadian tradition, and facilitating events like the Oil Sands Sled Dog Classic helps to keep that tradition alive. When combined with the other Winterfest activities on offer, this will be the type of event that will keep the whole family entertained.
