June Catton moved to Fort McMurray in 1973 and has been a long-time local in this region. Since moving to Anzac in 2011, June has dedicated many years of her life to helping and supporting her community. June is the president of the Anzac Family Community Support Society (AFCSS), an organization that provides members in the community of Anzac, FMFN #468 and the greater GLE area access to community resources, championing the community’s needs by providing programming for seniors, youth and adults.
She is a huge advocate for the elders and seniors, running programming such as Meals on Wheels, Radio Bingo nights, and senior luncheons just to name a few. She has helped the community by increasing services that are more easily accessible in urban spaces and bringing them to rural areas by collaborating with organizations as well as increasing capacity to support the needs of the community.
During COVID she would pick up groceries and medicine for those who were at home in isolation. She has helped run various fundraisers and community events over the years such as Anzac Daze, Winter Fest, and many Christmas festivities. June’s hard work and her dedication to her community doesn’t go unnoticed.
