For 88 years, Theresa Tuccaro was a pillar in her community of Fort Chipewyan. She had a profound impact on many community members and youth alike.
Theresa worked throughout her life as a counsellor within the school in Fort Chipewyan as well as at the local first nation. Through this role, she helped guide and educate many youth within the community while ensuring they had access to a supportive environment to thrive. Her home was always known as the gathering place where all would be welcomed. Theresa and her husband Gabe had eight children while also providing support for many other children in the community.
Theresa was consistently involved in community events volunteering and providing support where needed. Due to her work within the school system, Theresa was an advocate for increasing the quality and accessibility of education in the region. She sat on the Treaty 8 Elders Council as an Education Advocate well into her senior years. Her commitment to this involved travelling to Edmonton to represent the region and be a voice for the immediate needs of the community.
