Anzac Recreation Centre

Official Host Venue of Badminton
Located on the western shore of Willow Lake in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Anzac is a hamlet of approximately 800 people. The Anzac Recreation Centre is a 112,000 square-foot-facility and includes a fitness centre, indoor running track, an NHL-sized area, field house, boardroom and other children/youth spaces and amenities. It opened to the public on March 3, 2014, and was one of the host venues for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

Official Host Venue of Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing
The Birchwood Trails is a network of 135 kilometres of maintained natural trails throughout the Boreal forest located in Thickwood. Residents use the trails all year round for walking, running, biking, cross-country skiing and inline skating, and much more. The trails offer three official cross-country ski circuits of 5, 8 and 13-kilometre-long loops.

Centerfire Place

Official Host Venue of female hockey and male & female hockey medal rounds
Located in Thickwood, Centerfire Place is home to the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The facility houses a 1,537-seat arena, multi-purpose room, amphitheatre, and pottery guild. Centrefire Place has hosted the 2004 Arctic Winter Games, the 2015 Canadian Ringette Championships and the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

Composite High School is home to the Miners. The sports teams include golf, cross-country running, football, volleyball, basketball, handball, badminton, coed soccer, and track & field and have won many regional and provincial zones tournaments.

Fort McKay Arena is located on Fort McKay Road next to the new Youth Centre. The arena has been the location for some special events including, the Mark Messier International Hockey School summer of 2019 and the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

Nestled along the banks of the Athabasca River, the Fort McMurray Golf Club is ranked one of the must-play golf courses in Alberta and has hosted PGA tour tournaments, numerous local golf tournaments, weddings and a variety of events year-round.

Located in Beacon Hill, the Frank Lacroix arena is home base for many of Fort McMurray’s minor hockey league athletes. Operated by the Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association, the arena features a 190-foot by 85-foot ice surface, along with a multipurpose room with a kitchen.

Located on MacDonald Island, Shell Place and Suncor Community Leisure Centre are home to Fort McMurray’s world-class sports facilities. The leisure centre includes four separate fields of play, racquetball and squash courts, an indoor running track, a fitness centre, an indoor climbing wall, an indoor playground, a public library, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Shell Place is also a multi-amenity facility with state-of-the-art fieldhouses and event spaces.
Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre

Located on the grounds of Keyano College Clearwater Campus, the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre is the home of Keyano Huskies. The facility recently underwent a renovation after the building sustained extensive damage during a flood in the Spring of 2020. The facility includes three fieldhouses, a running track, fitness studios and wellness facilities, as well as community and meeting rooms.
Vista Ridge All Seasons Park

Official Host Venue of Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding
Vista Ridge – All Seasons Park is marked as “the best non-mountain winter recreation in Alberta”. Vista Ridge offers 60 skiable acres with an additional tube park and a 500-seat lodge. From June to September, guests take advantage of the family-friendly Aerial Adventure Park, 12-hole golf course, aqua range and mini-putt.
