Q&A with the Presenting Partner, Hines Health Services

Raised in Fort McMurray, Kristi Hines, Founder and CEO of Hines Health Services has celebrated the holidays in our region for many years, and she continues to make festive memories with her own children while embracing everything that our region has to offer.

Kristi recently chatted with Your McMurray Magazine’s editorial team about the holidays, her love for the region, and her support of the 2023 Holiday Guide.

YMM: Can you share with us some of your favourite memories of growing up in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region?

KH: Growing up in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region has provided me with countless cherished memories. Here are some of my favourite ones:

Exploring the Boreal Forest: Some of my fondest memories include spending countless amounts of time exploring the beautiful Boreal Forest that surrounds the region. Whether it was building forts with my twin sister Lindsay, sledding or simply wandering through the trails, I always felt a sense of peace and connection with nature.

Community Spirit: The tight-knit community in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is something I will always cherish. From local events and festivals to volunteering opportunities, there is always a sense of togetherness and support. Participating in community activities and witnessing the kindness of the people around me has created lasting memories.

Sports and Recreation: The region offers a variety of sports and recreational activities for all ages. Whether it was playing volleyball, basketball, or participating in swimming lessons, I have fond memories of the camaraderie and the joy of being part of a team. These experiences taught me valuable life skills and created lasting friendships. I believe sports in my childhood made me who I am today…building character through sportsmanship.

These are just a few of my favourite memories of growing up in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region. The unique blend of nature, community, and diverse experiences has shaped me into the person I am today, and I am grateful for the opportunities and memories this region has provided.

YMM: Tell us a bit about your own family, and why you chose to raise your children in our community.

KH: Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is a close-knit community where there is often a strong sense of belonging and support. Children can grow up surrounded by neighbours, friends, and extended family who are invested in their well-being and development. This sense of community can provide a support system for both parents and children, fostering a sense of security and connection.

YMM: What are some of the holiday traditions that you grew up with, that you’re now continuing on with your own children?

KH: There are many holiday traditions you can do with children during Christmas. We enjoy decorating the Christmas tree, baking and decorating cookies, caroling and watching family Christmas movies.

YMM: What is the most meaningful gift that you ever received?

KH:  In 2018 I received a Cuckoo clock from Germany. I love the fact that I hear and see it every day.

YMM: When you set out to do your holiday shopping around town, where are your favourite stores to stop in?

KH: My favourite shops include the Flower Studio, Life Force and of course hitting Peter pond Mall.  I love going to Coles for new books, Bath & Body Works for candles and now Sephora too!

YMM: Some of your favourite holiday recipes are featured in this year’s Holiday Guide. When it comes to the delicious food enjoyed during the holidays, do you look forward to the sweet or the savoury food the most?

KH:  I like both sweet and savory such as homemade sugar cookies and bacon wrapped water chestnuts.

YMM: You are a huge supporter of our community; Hines Health Services has aligned itself with so many programs and initiatives in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. Why was it important to you to be the Presenting Partner of Your McMurray Magazine’s Holiday Guide this year?

KH: The opportunity to showcase the fantastic business community we have and all of our unique offerings. Supporting local business helps to create a stronger and more connected community, where people know and support each other.
