“I want people to look back and talk about the difference that was made, that I was a person who impacted change by being a part of the solution. I believe that we must be the change we want to see.”
For the past 20 years, Katie Ekroth has called Wood Buffalo home. Married for 19 years to Corey, and the mom to Ty, Jace, and Alyssa, she has spent much of her time working in real estate, and supporting her kids in their own activities.
“My extracurricular time has primarily been spent around my kids’ interests,” Katie said, “whether it was motocross, football, basketball, skiing, or snowboarding. Now that they are older, I am able to spend more time on the things I enjoy, such as crafting, painting, refinishing old furniture, and learning to play the guitar.
A real estate broker for RE/MAX Fort McMurray, Katie has also expanded her portfolio into condominium management with 20/20 Management, something she did after recognizing a need in the industry.
“I got into condominium management when we were looking to expand our service offerings at RE/MAX,” she said.
Katie has sat on the board for the Fort McMurray Realtors, Alberta Real Estate Association, and the Northern Lights Health Foundation, as well as the McMurray Dirt Riders Association, Trappers Football, and the Justin Slade Youth Foundation.
Sharing that this year has taught her to expect the unexpected, Katie is looking forward to 2021, with plans to move 20/20 Management into a bigger location and to fine-tune their business model for continued growth. She also hopes that 2021 will be a time when family gatherings can happen again.
“We take for granted the relationships we have until we can’t wrap our arms around a person,” she says.
