YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray?

NK: This one is easy – Fort McMurray has always been home to me. I believe there is so much Fort McMurray has to offer, both personally and professionally. I am proud to be a part of a supportive and resilient community.

YMM: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

NK: An accomplishment I am most proud of is dedicating my focus to building a career that is meaningful and impactful to me. I have spent the last decade working with a great organization and I dedicated my focus to seize upon the opportunities that allowed me to continue back to my community and first nation.

YMM: What would you say to your 10-year-old self?

NK: I would love to tell 10-year-old me that your plans and priorities will frequently shift over the years, and that’s perfectly fine – you will find your purpose. On days when you are faced with uncertainty, remain confident in yourself and your abilities.

YMM: Describe your perfect day in YMM.

NK: As my time is frequently spent indoors, I try my best to take advantage of the outdoor landscape our community has to offer. My perfect day would be boating on one of the local rivers with my family.

YMM: What motivates you?

NK: I am motivated by my passion for making a positive impact. I was raised by very strong role models (my mother and grandmother) who encouraged me to give back at any capacity. I am grateful for their guidance, and I continue to be inspired to making a difference within my organization, my community and family.

YMM: For what are you most grateful?

NK: I would need an entire publication to answer this question but to summarize. I am grateful for my fiancé, Jerry, and his unwavering encouragement. I am grateful for the endless support of my parents, grandparents, family members, friends and colleagues.
