POWER DUO
Class of 2022
Naturopathic doctors Sam Clouthier and Jacinta Sullivan are both partners in life and in business.
As co-owners of Juniper Naturopathic Clinic, this Power Duo is helping guide residents of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region throughout their health journeys. Sam and Jacinta recently sat down with YMM and shared a bit about their passions, the community, and more.
YMM: What is the most rewarding part of your career?
SC: Empowering my patients with knowledge about their own mental health. I love the “a-ha” moments!
JS: Educating and empowering my patients throughout their health journey. Helping those with chronic illnesses/concerns starting to feel better.
YMM: What keeps you in Fort McMurray?
SC: Firstly, my local chosen family and Jacinta’s family. Also, my amazing team at Juniper, and all my patients who make me feel so incredibly fulfilled.
JS: Being a source of support for those in need. Fort McMurray, like many northern communities, is in major need of healthcare support. Having the opportunity to help those achieve their health goals is very rewarding.
YMM: In your opinion, in what areas does Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo need improvement?
SC: I’d love to see more events for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community year-round (stay tuned, we are working on it!). I think we could also use a few more great restaurants – I’m a bit of a foodie.
JS: It would be amazing to see more healthcare resources. It is also important to see more organizations and events that promote inclusion and support for marginalized communities.
YMM: What accomplishments are you most proud of?
SC: I worked at a job where women were receiving 66 cents for every dollar men in the same role were making. I fought single-handedly for almost a year and finally received equal pay for myself and my colleagues. Owning Juniper and being a naturopathic doctor is super cool but getting equal pay will always be the coolest thing I’ve ever done.
JS: Becoming a Naturopathic Doctor and owning a clinic with my partner. Being able to provide a space for additional healthcare in Fort McMurray and reaching many people who otherwise were not receiving adequate care.
YMM: Who is your hero, and why?
SC: My mom. She’s a true feminist and has always broken down barriers. I look up to her every day.
JS: My mom. She is an unwavering source of support, love and acceptance. She had 13 children and made time for each and everyone of us. She always encouraged us to follow our heart, give it our all and approach every circumstance with love.
