YMM Builders – 2022

Presented by

The Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region would not be the vibrant, diverse, and beautiful community it is without the contributions of those we call the YMM Builders.

The YMM Builders are selected because they represent the legacy of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region. In their own ways, they have helped this region grow and develop. Their impact is indelible.

This is the fourth year that Your McMurray Magazine has recognized the YMM Builders. They are chosen by the same selection committee that finalizes the list of the Top 50 Under 50, a group that is comprised of community members as well as Your McMurray Magazine’s editorial team.

This year’s recipients are joining the YMM Builders of past years: John Wilson, Jack ‘Torchy’ Peden, Dave Tuccaro, Eric Newell, Jim Carter, Norm and Sheila Sutton, Julia McDougall, Alan Roberts, and Paul and Andrea Spring.

Being honoured this year are Elder Lina Gallup, Elder Robert Cree, and Marty and Deninne Gilles. Thank you, YMM Builders, for your contributions to our community.

The YMM Builders Award for 2022

Each YMM Builder is recognized with a community award designed and crafted by members of the local arts industry. Each award reflects the individual celebrated, and features representations of the unique, important legacy that the recipients have imparted on our region.

The YMM Builders of 2022 will receive an award custom designed by Fort McMurray artist Liana Wheeldon. Each award reflects the individual(s) they are celebrating and feature representations of the unique, important legacy that the recipients have given to our region. The awards created for the YMM Builders 2022 are construction paving bricks painted in acrylic, pastel, and ink. Bricks represent the solid foundation, strength of spirit, and weighty contribution made by The YMM Builders. www.lianawheeldon.com

“This year’s recipients each have long histories within our region and share a passion for helping others. Two build a remarkable quality of life through sharing their wisdom and culture, and two give back to the community as volunteers and donors. All recipients value family – the ones we have and the ones we meet along the way.

I have drawn from the natural world to create the awards this year, each creature symbolizing the recipient and the qualities which singled them out for recognition: confidence, leadership, wisdom, intuition, and strength.”
