Letter From The Editor – YMM Parent – Issue 5

Once a year, the team at YMM gets the opportunity to bring forward an edition entirely focused on families in our region and this edition is no exception.

YMM Parent is always a treat to prepare as it highlights kids, our schools and the great work happening in our community to provide the best possible quality of life for families.

One of the most special parts of this edition is the Top 20 Under 20 program brought to us again this year by our partners at Fly YMM. This is a fabulous program that sees the YMM team work closely with the youth from MACOY (Mayor’s Advisory Council of Youth) who run the program from start to finish. MACOY leads the nomination process, selection panel and the writing, photography and videography components of the program. Twenty youths are selected and then celebrated in an event at the Fort McMurray International Airport. We can’t thank these youth enough for their dedication to bringing this program to life – we wouldn’t and couldn’t do it without you.

For four years, we have been celebrating some of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo’s most hard-working kids and youth who are truly making a difference in our region. Check out their stories (written by their peers) on pages 16 to 32 .  Join us in celebrating their achievements and encouraging them in all of their future success. Our region is brighter because of each of you.

We look forward to another year of great stories, family-friendly activities and making memories together with all of you, our readers.

Have a fantastic school year and a safe Fall season.
